Fun Wine Tips & Facts!

I LOVE wine…so I had to incorporate the most beautiful drink into my blog! Red wine is my go-to but…I will indulge in white wine garnished with frozen fruit during the hot summer months to cool off. My ultimate favourite time to enjoy a glass of red wine is by warm fire at night, nothing is better in my opinion! I thought I would share some fun facts about wine so you can be a smarty pants next time you are out enjoying dinner with your friends and family. Enjoy!

Fact: It takes 300-400 grapes to make one bottle of wine. That’s a lot of grapes!

Fact: Wine drinkers pour 12% more wine in a glass they are holding versus one sitting on the table. I don’t see an issue with this myself…

Tip: Because of the higher temperatures while cooking or baking, it’s best not to store your wine in the kitchen. Also, wine should not be refrigerated as well as it is too cool. Time to build that wine cellar!

Tip: The reason you should hold your wine glass by the stem is because the heat from your hand will warm up the wine and that’s a no-no. I break this rule all of the time!

Fact: Not all wines improve with age, most are best consumed within a year. This is not a problem in my house!

Tip: Wine’s that smell ‘musty’ or ‘off’ could mean that the bottle has a bad cork in it and this can ruin the wine. If this happens, the bottle has been ‘corked’. What a shame if this happens!

Tip: Don’t store your wine standing up as this will dry out your cork. This could cause the cork to crumble when opening and no one likes a little cork with their wine. πŸ™‚

Tip: Swirling your wine before the first sip will aerate the wine and release the delicious aroma’s for you to enjoy.

Fact: There are more than 10 000 varieties of grapes around the world! Wow!

Fact: The first corkscrew was invented in the mid 1800’s…I wonder how they managed before this? I will go research!

Fact: It has been said that women are better wine taster’s than men because women have a better sense of smell
